Bolzano, 19.9.2025 - Press release

Handover of the Alexander Langer Archive to the Provincial Archive

With the signing of the deposit contract for Alexander Langer's Archive at the Provincial Archive of Bolzano, which will take place on September 19, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Palazzo Rottenbuch, headquarters of the Provincial Superintendency for Cultural Heritage, Langer's documentary collection will leave the Langer Foundation's headquarters to be preserved at the Provincial Archive and made available for public consultation.

The deposit follows the Superintendency's recognition which on January 27, 2021 declared the Alexander Langer Archive of "notable historical interest" and defined Langer in the motivations as "one of the most important intellectual and political protagonists of South Tyrol/Alto Adige in the post-war period."

The Langer archive remains at the center of initiatives launched to enhance the figure and work of the South Tyrolean intellectual and politician, thanks to a cooperation agreement between the Alexander Langer Foundation, Provincial Archive of Bolzano and Historical Museum Foundation of Trentino signed in 2021. Planned projects include digitization by themes of part of the archival documentation, publications and selections of Langer's writings and speeches, research, seminars, conferences, exhibitions and other public events.

Present at the signing of the deposit contract will be Landeshauptmann Arno Kompatscher, Superintendent Karin Dalla Torre, Provincial Archive director Gustav Pfeifer, Alexander Langer Stiftung Foundation president Christine Stufferin, Giorgio Mezzalira and Edi Rabini.
