    2026 Langer Prize Goes to Congolese Activist François Kamate Kasereka

    Bolzano, February 18, 2026 – The Alexander Langer Stiftung Foundation today announced, at its headquarters in Via Bottai, the award of the 2026 International Alexander Langer Prize. The prestigious recognition has been conferred on François Kamate Kasereka, a young activist from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), for his extraordinary nonviolent commitment to climate justice, human rights, and peace.

    NONVIOLENCE & RESISTENCE

    This year the central theme of Euromediterranea has been the "spirit of collaboration and dialogue" that animates some Palestinian and Israeli volunteers in addressing, through nonviolent methods, their decades-long conflict in territories such as the West Bank, characterized by serious violations of international law.

Short Biography

Alexander Langer

Born in Sterzing/Vipiteno in South Tyrol on 22.2.1946. His father Artur (1900-1974), a doctor, was born and raised in Vienna before moving to Bolzano in 1914. His mother, Elisabeth Kofler (1909-1983), from Tyrol in Sterzing, was a pharmacist. Two younger brothers: Martin and Peter. He attended German-language elementary schools in Vipiteno and, from 1956/57, middle school and private gymnasium of the Franciscan fathers in Bolzano.
