National Peace Council Holds Elections - 2008.09.09

The first meeting of the National Peace Council executive committee was held on Sunday ‎September 7, 2008 and electing the members of its leadership board. ‎

Narges Mohammadi was elected as the president of the council’s executive committee. ‎

According to the National Peace Council’s public relations office, the following persons ‎were elected to the executive comittee:‎

‎1 – Narges Mohammadi, President‎

‎2 – Isa Saharkhiz, Vice President

‎3 – Abdolfattah Soltani, Spokesperson ‎

‎4 – Hossein Shah Hosseini, Treasurer ‎

The council’s executive committee is comprised of 15 full members and 5 alternate ‎members all of whom were elected earlier this summer by the council’s general members. ‎

The National Peace Council is comprised of 83 individuals, political and social activists ‎representing various religious and ethnic groups. In the words of Isa Saharkhiz, “The ‎social layer of this council would be active in a broad area with the presence of activists ‎such as journalists, teachers, women’s rights activists, university students, etc.” ‎

According to Saharkhiz, “Anyone who is concerned with peace and wants to prevent the ‎nation from descending into war can become a member of the council.”‎
